For a good while now, even when I was not using notes with Obsidian, I wanted the functionality of having audio memos transcribed. I like how Audionotes transcribed and organized notes, but it was pricey for me and hosted on the platform. The voice memos on iOS are nice, but the transcription feature is not.
In Obsidian I had the Audio Recorder core plugin, but did not really use it - I need the text.
Today I got more interested and found this article and I got excited. Yes you have to pay for the OpenAI API usage because the Whisper model uses the API keys, but from my experience, this is not that expensive. I still have $4.94 from the first $5 I put months ago (I tested out working on a Discord bot), and I see this feature as something worth it to some degree.
It comes in handy especially when I use my phone to record, it’s fast and it helps for someone who is not coherent out of the bat like me.
